People Say ‘You Haven’t Lived’ If You’ve Not Watched Classic Movie That Brings The Ultimate Nostalgia

Viewers are raving about a film which was 'one of their favorites growing up' but some still haven't heard of it

A fantastical family comedy is being raved about online for transporting people back to their childhoods.

Zooey Deschanel may never be able to watch her holiday classic even at Christmas, but for many, Elf is the perfect film to get in the festive spirit and feel like you’re a kid again.

And there’s another film, which was released over 30 years ago that is transporting people back to their childhoods, and has people reminiscing on social media.

The screenplay for the black comedy fantasy movie was written by Carlos Davis and Anthony Fingleton and the film was directed by Ate de Jong.

It stars the likes of Phoebe Cates (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Ashley Peldon (The Secretary), Rik Mayall (ABBA: Our Last Video Ever), Marsha Mason (Heartbreak Ridge) and Ron Eldard (Freedomland).

The story centers around court reporter Elizabeth Cronin (Cates) whose life feels like it’s falling apart when she bumps into an old childhood friend, who reminds her of an imaginary friend she used to have named Drop Dead Fred.

The situation turns into a bit like a genie in the lamp kind of scenario and well, you can probably guess how things go from here with Drop Dead Fred potentially causing more trouble than doing any real problem solving in Elizabeth’s life.

And while the film – titled Drop Dead Fred – first premiered in 1991, that’s not stopped people from sharing their love for it now.

Drop Dead Fred was harshly reviewed when it was first released, but those who saw it for the first time when they were little have ended up clinging onto the movie for the nostalgic journey it takes them on.

Granted, the film has only achieved a dire Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 11 percent but it achieved a vastly improved popcornmeter score of 71 percent.

And it’s even made it onto LADbible Facebook Group Netflix Bangers, a user sharing a still from the movie, adding: “Many people don’t know what movie this is! One of my favorite growing up!”

“Drop dead Fred a banger,” another Facebook user added.

A third commented: “Drop dead Fred loved this as a kid.”

“People haven’t lived if they haven’t seen this movie!!! Fave,” a fourth wrote.

A fifth added: “Drop Dead Fred. So nostalgic.”

And a final resolved: “Absolutely love this film cannot beat drop dead Fred ! Rick Mayall is absolutely brilliant in this x.”
