Hotels are usually your home away from home when you are on a trip. So, you expect it to be as hygienic and pristine as possible. The complimentary bottles of shower gel and shampoo are usually bonus enjoyment. However, according to TikTok, visitors would do well to stay away from them.
A TikTok user by the name of ‘Traveling Hotel Manager’ had a vital piece of advice for her viewers. She has issued a vehement warning to everyone against using the complimentary bottles. The possible reason is quite malicious and dangerous, to say the least.
She starts her clip by introducing herself and then walking into the hotel bathroom. There she showed three full-sized containers of shampoo, body wash, and conditioner gel. She then warned her viewers not to use them because they are not secure.
How Secure And Clean Is Your Hotel Room?
The TikTok then went on to show that anyone can very easily unscrew the bottles’ pump lids. As such, she explains that previous guests can fill the bottles up with whatever they want, including bleach and hair color.
So, the wisest choice would be never to use them. Instead, she advises travelers to carry their own shower gel and shampoo. For those who do not have that habit, she advised them to at least call reception and request a new set, even if they are the mini ones. A lot of her viewers were very grateful for the advice.
One even shared her bad experience with it: “Yeah. Still suffering from contract dermatitis after forgetting my products and using those.” However, there were a few who argued that most hotels used secure, dispensable ones that get changed out every time.
However, this is not the only dubiously unsanitary practice in hotels. In 2017, Inside Edition carried out an investigation of how well the staff usually cleaned the bathrooms. Correspondents left behind harmless, easily washable marks on the toilet rim and the shower floor that could only be viewed under UV light. After checking out and checking in the next day into the same room, they were appalled to find the marks still intact.
