Gel Rodriguez, a passenger from the Philippines, recently found herself in a predicament when her carry-on luggage exceeded the allowed weight limit. To avoid paying extra baggage fees, Gel took extreme measures by wearing over 5 lb of her own clothing.

This creative solution came about after an airline staff member at the check-in counter informed her that her suitcase weighed over 19 lb and would incur a weight fee. Gel’s ingenuity and determination to avoid the additional charges showcase her clever problem-solving skills and willingness to go to great lengths to save on travel expenses.

By layering herself with multiple T-shirts, pants, and jackets, she transformed her baggage from a hefty 19 lb to a much lighter 14 lb.

“I didn’t want to pay the fee for the excess baggage because it was only 2 kg (4.4 lb),” Gel explained in an interview. Although Gel’s clever solution to avoid paying extra baggage fees was successful, she admitted that it came with its own set of challenges. “It was really hot,” she said.
